Fire Escape

The title is for a play called The Glass Menagerie, by Tennessee Williams, this photo reminded me of this part: "The apartment faces an alley and is entered by a fire escape, a structure whose name is a touch of accidental poetic truth, for all of these large buildings are always burning with the slow and implacable fire of human desperation"

When I took this I thought about the people who lived there, how their lives were, if they hoped to move to somewhere better, or if they were resigned with their condition.
How can some people live in mansions while thousands live in places like this?
How can we -I- accept this?

Why do we keep glorifying celebrities with huge pay-checks and not these people?

I know that there are slums, and places much worse than this. I know there are people dying of hunger, homeless children. I know that to live there isn't the worst thing. But.......I can't stop thinking that inside one of these windows there's a Tom.
