Glacier Girl Business End - a photo on Flickriver

            Glacier Girl is a World War II-era P-38 fighter plane that crash landed on a glacier in Greenland in 1942. It was recovered in the 1990s from under more than 260 feet of ice, having been buried deeper and deeper as the years passed. About ten years of work restored it to flying condition, such that it is one of the few (about ten) airworthy P-38s in the world. The P-38 was the only U.S. fighter plane in continuous production throughout World War II.

This one is on temporary exhibit at the Lone Star Flight Museum in Houston, Texas.
