Tower of the Sun (太陽の塔, Taiyō no Tō)
was created by Japanese artist Tarō Okamoto as the centerpiece of Expo '70 which took place in Osaka while I was still in high school.

It is currently preserved and located in the Expo Commemoration Park which I visited while in Osaka because I saw a photo of this building in one of the guidebooks.

The interior was closed to the public for years, and the building was deteriorating, but was restored and the museum was reopened to the public in 2018. I didn't pay to go inside, as photography was not allowed.

I remember clearly the centerpieces of the World's Fairs in Seattle (The Space Needle) in 1962 and in New York (The Unisphere) in 1964 but frankly I cannot remember any media experience of Expo '70 which was the first World's Fair in Asia. I was going to up the coast to Expo '74 in Spokane, Washington when my father died and I had to turn around, go home and prepare for the funeral.

This structure is 230 feet tall and is quite impressive.
