DSC_2688 Aosta - Roman Theatre - a photo on Flickriver

            Aosta ( Italy) -Roman Theatre. 
The theater building is deemed happened a few decades after the founding of the city in 25 BC were found in the area are in fact the remains of existing buildings. 
The amphitheater dates from the time of Emperor Claudius. 
The only currently visible is the southern facade, 22 meters tall, characterized by a series of buttresses and arches and lightened by three overlapping windows of varying size and shape. 
Clearly identifiable are also the semi-circular tiers that housed the spectators (auditorium), orchestra (whose radius is 10 meters), and the stage wall (now reduced to only foundations) that once rose up with his rich prospect ornate columns and marble statues.

Aosta -Teatro Romano.
La costruzione del teatro è ritenuta avvenuta qualche decennio dopo la fondazione della città, nel 25 a.C.: nell'area sono infatti stati rinvenuti resti di costruzioni preesistenti.
L'anfiteatro risale all'epoca dell'imperatore Claudio.
La sola facciata attualmente visibile è quella meridionale, alta ben 22 metri, caratterizzata da una serie di contrafforti e di arcate ed alleggerita da tre ordini sovrapposti di finestre di varia forma e dimensione. 
Ben individuabili sono pure le gradinate ad emiciclo che ospitavano gli spettatori (cavea), l‘orchestra (il cui raggio è di 10 metri), ed il muro di scena (ora ridotto alle sole fondamenta) che un tempo si innalzava col suo ricco prospetto ornato di colonne, di marmi e di statue.
