The Toys of Summer

            The thing is that up here in the north we have nice underwater views, one just has to find them. The flora and fauna are different from, say, Seychelles or the Maldives, obviously, but it’s not that bad, just different. We have a problem with the water though, the Baltic sea is said to be the most polluted in the world, the blue-green algae blooms are awful. It can be thick as pea soup. The scenery above the water is nice though, and we booked a week in a cabin by the sea shore in the archipelago regardless of the algae. I thought I would not photograph much under the waves during this trip, but as we took off, I was already sitting in the car, I went back to the house and took the Lego Deep Sea Explorers with me just in case.

And what do you know, the sea was clear! Clear according to our standards anyway. Swimming was a bliss. We arrived on friday, on saturday I took the first batch of the underwater photographs I thought I wouldn’t be taking at all.

On sunday, the water seemed not that clear anymore and I decided to wait and check again the next morning whether it would clear overnight. I took some photographs nevertheless. You know, just in case. This is one of those.

On monday the Blue-Green algae bloom kicked in. It was not much, you could barely see it from above the water, but in the water, everything that floats shows. This was the state of things for the remaining days of our stay.

Summer holidays are over. Back to work.
