First knockings - a photo on Flickriver

First knockings

            Looking north from near Alstonefield, Narrowdale Hill silhouetted against the darkening night sky. From about 10.30pm the aurora became visible in the camera and at first was a green glow on the northern horizon.

For a few days the aurora had been a distinct possibility this evening, and with a clear forecast and the aurora alert from Lancaster Uni going crazy at 6pm I headed north. I was expecting a green glow on the northern horizon at most, so went somewhere with a clear view in that direction
