Laboulbenia hyalopoda (Laboulbeniales, Fungi)

            A number of slender thalli growing on the softer parts of the last abdominal segment of Paradromius linearis (Coleoptera, Carabidae). This fungal parasite is adapted to a life on the outside of this beetle species. It is mainly transmitted while the beetles copulate and that's why this peculiar place is actually the best place to grow. This image is approximately 1mm across.
Studio stack based on 207 images (ISO320, 1/3sec, wb 5200K) taken with a Olympus U plan 10x (microscope objective, RMS fit) on a telezoom at 300mm with 2x extender. Stack made with one Dmap in Zerene Stacker; unretouched and untreated image (for the time being).
