The Steal

This picture was taken at the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve. Every year thousands of eagles gather to feast on the spawning salmon. One eagle pulls a fish out of the river and then the battles begin. Some of the fish are "stolen" multiple times before being consumed. Here an older eagle chases off a juvenile.

The Alaska Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve is a state park and wildlife refuge in the U.S. state of Alaska near Haines. Established in 1982, the park covers 49,320 acres, mainly along the Chilkat River, with sections along the Klehini and Tsirku rivers. (Wikipedia)
