Standing in a market area on the Cambodian side of the Thai Cambodian border.
That's right I'm back in Cambodia and you are right again as I was just here a couple of weeks ago.

Short version of a long story, immigration screwed up my visa, of course they said "sorry".
Found a couple others while traveling that had the exact same visa problem as I did.
Anyway " Semi-legal Tea Money" has been payed and I'm back in Thailand today, don't remember when I left but most importantly I'm home now.
"" Semi-Legal "" ? Makes as much sense as being kind of pregnant !
All right getting back to the photo, it is Hot with overcast sky keeping the heat trapped, somewhere around 40-41C with no breeze. There is lots of talking in high fast voices both adult and children. The smell of Cambodian food drifting out from the food vendors stalls. Dogs barking, children laughing and motorbikes zipping by.Soon as I shoot the camera leaves my face and eye contact is made. A big smile is exchanged and life goes on.
This market is big and I mean real big, everyone knows each other and most all ride bikes around due to the distance involved.
After a while the curious eyes were everywhere watching this strange photographer half standing in the street shooting passing people, laughing, smiling, joking with anyone who will pause long enough.This is a wholesale market where the buyers are taking hundreds of kilos of clothes at a time over to Thailand. So for one white guy standing in the road with a camera is highly unusual. Even the police/military came by a couple of times to eye ball me, so I shot them too ..;-)

After an hour or so one curious but suspicious man came up to me slightly smiling and said " Who You !! Who You ?? " Now this could turn out real bad or real good depending on my response.
My mind went into overdrive thinking through this situation and how to resolve it quickly so everyone is happy with my reply. Big problem ! I know No Cambodian language but I do know a couple of universal words.
I said Thank You in Thai which was a good move as most border people speak both Thai and Khmer but his eyes told me he wanted a better explanation.
His head turned towards a group of young men [ maybe 10-15] that were tough looking dock workers standing 10 meters away also waiting for my answer.
Pushing my hat back and giving him my best smile and now using the second most understood phrase, raising the camera in a joyful motion I said in a loud voice "" CNN News ""
It was as if they all had just won the Lottery ! Cheering, high 5's, dancing and laughing all at once.
Turning and looking behind me in case I needed an escape route there was a little old lady standing there selling cigarettes.
I quickly handed her some Thai/Baht in turn she handed me 4 packs of smokes which were just as quickly tossed over to the group of cheering dock workers and one pack was handed off to the original interrogator. During the on going celebration Mr Jon drifted away into the crowd eventually finding a small food vendor tucked under a shade tree. Life is once again good.
Next thing is figure out how to get back to the border crossing and slip back into Thailand un-scathed, which the tea money of course had opened a door for me.
The journey home was long, bumpy, hot and for the most part boring. Except for the two times tour buses ran us into the ditch, in fact it was more then twice but one stops counting at some point.
It did give me time to reflect on a few new ideas for story/photo projects.
Might have a good one coming in a month or so. "Orphan Boy Makes Good" or something like that.
The sun was going down when I pulled into the compound, Mr WeeNee and The Worm went nuts, jumping, barking, licking and total mayhem for about 20 minutes. No# 1 wife was here waiting to patch up her wandering warrior husband who's birthday is tomorrow. Nieces, nephews and assorted other relatives were all happy to see Mr Jon has made it home from a neighboring country one more time. And I too was glad to see everyone as well.
No# 1 wife had been bit by a street dog just before my departure and was undergoing rabies injections. On my list of things to worry about this was right up at the top, she is doing well ..;-)

As a welcome home reward one of my 10 year old nephews is making me breakfast, he has never done this before so you know the eggs will be scrambled.
Mr WeeNee is leaning against my leg with his head in my lap as The Worm is upside down on her back wiggling and licking my toes while I type. As of tomorrow I have made it through one more year above ground, I'm a happy camper, thank you all for coming by and taking a moment to read my rambling story, much appreciated..
