OVER THE TOP - a photo on Flickriver

OVER THE TOP

            Not quite the celebrity it was to become in latter years. 43185 'Great Western' is on the rear and has just come through the short tunnel at Dainton summit and is now dropping down to Newton Abbot on 19-10-95
For once I have recorded that the working is the 10.15 Plymouth to Paddington.
I remember spending some time in the late afternoon in 1978 over the other side of the line. I took a very pleasing shot of 50020 on a ballast working out of Stoneycombe quarry in beautiful lighting. Sadly on it's return from a publisher's it disappeared along with half a dozen other slides - this was in the days of pre-digital so no copy survives. As the photo was not used by the publisher  it is now a lost memory. I often wonder if it ever found it's way to someone inadvertently but I think not.
