All Aflutter

My wife and I converted what used to be a hanging planter basket into a drinking and bird bath bowl. We get a lot of pleasure from watching the Hooded Orioles, in particular, drying themselves while still in the bath. All of the drops you see here are from the bird shaking itself like a wet dog drying off. It's quite a show.

Lighting stuff. I wanted to record some ambient light, because I didn't want it to look like a night shot, which meant I used a slow shutter speed (which doesn't affect the flash exposure) because much of the background is in shade here in the late afternoon when I took this. That's the reason for the motion blur. If I'd used a shutter speed of 1/250 sec, there would have been no motion blur. I had a light stand with a bare flash on either side of the "bath". I used a YN560 and YN560-III on either side, bare, and pointed towards the bath. The strobes, in manual mode, were triggered by a Yongnuo RF-603N.
