WW1 Little Bertha, 11 inch/28cm SK L/40 "Bruno" Amiens Railway Gun from Battleship SMS Hessen

Little Bertha was a 11" railway gun captured on the 8th August 1918 by the 31st Australian Infantry Battalion, 5th Division. Also known as the Amiens gun. This was one of the German heavy artillery pieces that bombarded the city of Amiens during WW1. Captured on a link railway line that ran between the villages of Proyart and Rosieres. During the Battle of Amiens a Sopwith Camel attacked the train and dropped a bomb on it setting the carriages on fire. At 10.00am a Brigade of English Cavalry rode up fast between Buchanan Wood and Harbonnieres past enemy strongpoints and caught up with the train. German soldiers on the train began to return fire but were quickly killed or taken prisoner by the 5th Dragon Guards & 11th Hussars. When the Australian Infantry arrived they took control of the German Railway Gun and the cavarly rode on towards Vauvillers to take out three hostile artillery batteries.
