Pletscher rack with 1930s Simplex bottle cage

            This came off of my father’s Legnano when his bike was being restored to its 1962 (as it was on the first TOSRV ride) condition to hang on display at Adventure Cycling Association’s headquarters in Missoula MT. The bottle cage was originally in use on his Paramount around 1940 before he joined the Navy in WWII. In the late 60s he had this carrier/cage combo on his Legnano as we concentrated our riding around Fairfield County. The pencil holder on the carrier stay was there to facilitate the notes he would take for preparing his series of bicycle maps. The stay fell off in my hand when I rotated it on its pivot!
