« La pelle du printemps est une sculpture interactive qui s’érige en ramifications foisonnantes, à l’image d’un arbre de métal et de plastique qui détonne dans le paysage. Des pelles à neige et leurs manches ont été fragmentés et reconfigurés en cette curieuse arborescence qui incite les passants à participer avec ludisme. Lorsque tournées, les manivelles en poignées de pelle font retentir des gazouillis, sorte d’appeaux qui simulent le chant des oiseaux pour entraîner l’arrivée du printemps. Fidèle à sa pratique, Gauthier brouille la distinction entre le fabriqué et le naturel. »
