Walsall 859, St Paul's Bus Station, 03/10/1970

            Trolleybus 859 was one a of a number of trolleybuses specially selected to run on the very last day of trolleybus operations in Walsall on Saturday 3rd October 1970. 

In truth, the last normal scheduled trolleybus services had ended the night before on Friday, 2nd October. The next day all scheduled trolleybus services were operated by motorbuses, including the newly delivered Daimler Fleeltlines, as pictured. 

To mark the end of trolleybus operations in the town, special trolleybus services were operated between Walsall and Bloxwich to give people a last chance to ride on the trolleys. 

Walsall bus enthusiast, the late Mark Gauden records the following: -  

'Eight trolleybuses were used on special duties on Saturday 3rd October 1970:-

342, 353, 859 and 875 were used on a special Walsall - Bloxwich service. 

862, 864 and 872 were used in the evening for the final procession.

874, was used on a special tour of the Western part of the system.'
