Early Railfan Walk- B&O Brookdale Branch, looking NW at Saginaw, South Chicago 3-69

Credit my Mom with snapping this March 1969 pic of myself and my younger sister and brother on the B&O Brookdale Branch in South Chicago. At the time we lived in an apartment on Manistee Street. The diagonal right-of-way was a shortcut to the grocery store and other places in the neighborhood.

UPDATE: thanks to Jonathan Reece, the exact location of this photo has been established: looking northwest towards the Saginaw Ave. grade crossing. Houses have since filled in the length of this old right-of-way through the neighborhood.

This north part of the branch crossed over the IC Electric South Chicago branch at 84th and Commercial, rejoining it at 70th. It was originally the B&O's line to the 1893 Columbian Exposition site in Jackson Park. industrialscenery.blogspot.com/2017/02/b-passenger-access...
