A Second Place Buck - a photo on Flickriver

            This great looking Roe Buck is number 2 in the pecking order on the rutting field. He is prepared to take on the No 1 Buck but so far he has not proved to be strong enough to win. Having just "retired" from a quick head-to-head with the top buck he returned to the field boundary and opted to come my way. I stayed low and waited... and waited..... and waited as he got closer. I don't like to scare deer so I stayed still and watched him rather than risk the noise of the camera as he came even closer. At this moment, he put his head up and I realised that my cover was blown. Given that I was sitting in the grass no hide or cover in was only a matter of time. Slightly unsure, he allowed me to take a couple of images before turning right and walking away. I could have got a few more images of him side on but again I didn't what to scare him as I will return and hopefully so will he.
