Amazing Osprey

            Went into work today at 7am and left at 10:30 as it was Sunny and I just couldn't resist another session with the Osprey at Westhay!  :-)

On the Somerset Levels there is currently an amazing sight of a Juvenile Osprey fishing very close to the gathering watchers. This particular bird does not seem to be troubled by the photographers and walkers who stopped by to enjoy this spectacular bird. It can be seen looking down on the watchers as it sometimes flew low and directly overhead. Being a Juvenile bird it is not successful with every dive and therefore makes repeated attempts to catch fish. Also slightly more unusual is that it is tending to catch fairly small fish (mainly Rudd) and is therefore having to fish more often. This bird is currently on the Somerset Wildlife Trust Reserve at Westhay.

As a photographer it is probably a once in a lifetime opportunity to see an Osprey so close on the Somerset Levels. The Ospreys are currently in migration from their  breeding sites further north and will be spending the winter in Africa.
