She Lies, Oslo, Norway - a photo on Flickriver

            She Lies a sculpture constructed of stainless steel and glass panels by Monica Bonvicini as a three-dimensional interpretation of Caspar David Friedrich's painting Das Eismeer (The Sea of Ice) (1823–1824). This striking sculpture evokes the power of ice and water ever-present in the high north.

It is permanently installed on a concrete platform in the fjord adjacent to Opera House. It floats on the water allowing it to turn and change in response to tides and wind to create an ever-changing face to viewers. Its subtle movements are a reminder of nature’s constant change. The name She Lies adds intentional ambiguity that encourages further reflection.
