Turnerwoood Double Bottom Lock. Chesterfield Canal.

            Feb 2010. Chesterfield Canal. The canal has a staircase of locks at Turnerwood, just to the west of Shireoaks. Basically a contour canal, opened in 1779 to connect Chesterfield with the River Trent, the canal had to rise quite steeply at this point so a series of locks were built.
