Il Fondaco dei Tedeschi o, come viene chiamato a Venezia, Fontego dei Tedeschi, è un antico palazzo della città lagunare, adiacente al Ponte di Rialto. Più volte ricostruito e riadattato nel corso dei secoli, ha subito notevoli cambiamenti rispetto alla sua struttura originaria. Nonostante questo, nel 1987 ha avuto lo status giuridico di ‘monumento’, condizione che avrebbe dovuto preservare l’edificio da ogni ulteriore modifica architettonica.
Costruito una prima volta nel 1228, fu completamente distrutto da un incendio, e quindi nuovamente edificato nel 1506. Subì delle modifiche nel 18° secolo, e fu poi ricostruito negli anni ’30.

THE ESCALATORS

The Fondaco dei Tedeschi or, as it is called in Venice, Fontego dei Tedeschi, is an ancient palace in the lagoon city, adjacent to the Rialto Bridge. Rebuilt and adapted several times over the centuries, it has undergone notable changes compared to its original structure. Despite this, in 1987 it received the legal status of 'monument', a condition which should have preserved the building from any further architectural modification.
Built for the first time in 1228, it was completely destroyed by fire, and then rebuilt in 1506. It underwent modifications in the 18th century, and was then rebuilt in the 1930s.
