Located in the North Atlantic? - a photo on Flickriver

            The little corner of Longton town centre which is home to this group of shops was once known as "Longton's Bermuda Triangle". It was filled with public houses and many of the town's men were said to head off to this area and disappear for days at a time.
The Strand public house sits on the site of the Old Black Lion pub which first appeared on the 1856 O. S. maps, although there doesn't seem to be any record of a pub here after 1871. There was an old brew house to the rear of the pub. The new pub was opened in 2016 following the closure of Williamsons.
It was owned by Williamson Jewllers for many years along with the shutterd shop to the left. Both the new and old pub sit where Willaimson shop sold photographic equipment for many years.
The triangle of land formed by The Strand, Gold Street (which runs off to the right) and Heathcote Road contained numerous pubs in a very small area.. The Britannia cafe on the left of the shot was once "The Waterloo, around the corner in Gold Street sat The Shamrock, and The Bridge, whilst on the near corner (just out of shot) sat The Cricketers and Duke of Claredon and on Heathcote Road The George and Dragon, known locally as "The Owd Hut" or "Th'owd Hut" (there's a story to that name!
