Fit for a Prince?

            Dating back to 1863 and named in honour of the marriage of the Prince of Wales (Albert Edward) to Princess Alexandra, this old potbank has seen some changes over the years, even a brief change of name.
The Prince of Wales or Northern Range on Sutherland Road was built for a Welshman, Benjamin Shirley who teamed with Walter Freeman, operating the business under the name Shirley and Freeman for just a year.
Unfortunately, Shirley died in 1864 and Freeman partnered with Titus Hammersley, using the name Hammersley and Freeman until 1870.
Following Freeman's retirement in 1871, the business name then changed in 1872 when they adopted the name Hammersley and Asbury, Edward Asbury having joined the company in 1866.
Hammersley died in 1875 and the company name again changed to E. Asbury and Co, operating as such until 1925.
Aynsley China, a pottery manufacturer who had operated since 1775, then took charge of this range, eventually having three large ranges on Sutherland Road.
This old factory is grade II listed but is sadly showing signs of neglect like many of its neighbours. The image of the decline of our once proud pottery heritage on such a large scale.
I have found reference to this range being known as Sheridan Works but I'm not sure when.
