Raven with an Attitude - a photo on Flickriver

            As I stepped out of my car in Yellowstone National Park, I threw a few grapes to this raven.  Then, I went on a short hike.  When I returned, I found the bird sitting on the roof of the car and, as I approached, it began screeching, apparently demanding more grapes.  

I enlisted Microsoft Bing to write a short poem inspired by my weird encounter with the raven, echoing the haunting style of Edgar Allan Poe: 

Upon my carriage's return, I espied, 
A raven black, perched high and dignified.
With eyes that held the midnight's starless cloak,
It watched me near, and then it spoke.  

"More, more," it seemed to screech and cry, 
For grapes once tossed 'neath Yellowstone's sky.
Its call, a ghostly, demanding plea, 
A ravenous spirit, wild and free.  

In Poe's own words, one might hear it say,
"Nevermore," to bid me stay. 
But this bird sought not to seal my doom,
Only to feast on fruit's sweet bloom.  

So there we stood, man and raven, bound, 
By simple gifts upon the ground.
And in its gaze, I found a tale, 
Of nature's voice, through sun and hail.  

A reminder bold, from beak to core, 
Of the wild's ask, forevermore.
