Shieling in Westmorland Dales: Study sheet

            Studies from email attachments on my mobile phone. I am making a start on a commission to provide illustrations of a subject I know only a little about. Shielings were seasonal buildings, usually with attached enclosures, built high on the Pennines in Yorkshire, Durham, Northumberland and Westmorland (now Cumbria). The ones I am to illustrate consist of wall footings but recent archaeological excavations have revealed some additional information. Getting to know the subject should help me create better illustrations.  Drawn in an A5 size smooth cartridge paper sketchbook with pencil, watercolour and a bit of Staedtler Pigmentliner pen.
