Enna, en route to Agrigento, Sicily (#DrawingAugust)

            The transfer by coach from Catania airport  to our hotel near Agrigento took about two and half hours. On the way we made a comfort stop at a service station. Rather spend the whole half an hour indoors I had a quick sandwich then headed outside to sketch the view. The town perched on the left hand hill I was told is Enna, an historic town almost exactly in the centre of Sicily. It this has a long and chequered history, having been held by many waves of invaders. It was taken from the Arabs, for a second and final time, in 1087. A castle built by the Lombards finally secured it. Sketched in around 20 minutes, using aStaedtlet Pigment Liner with colour added later from memory, in a Moleskine A5 size sketchbook.
