Clovelly Harbour - a photo on Flickriver

Clovelly Harbour

            Anyone who has visited this harbour will know it is a long steep cobblestone path down from the visitor centre at the top of the hill above and going back is, to say the least, challenging. On this particular occasion the weather at the top was probably one of the best days of the year so far – sunny and warm. It was still warm when we got to the bottom, but sadly sea mist kept rolling in and out and this inevitably affected the photographs. Still, it is what it is!

The fishing village of Clovelly has a documented history going back almost 1,000 years and was first mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086 although there was probably a settlement here in Anglo Saxon times. Although tourism has replaced fishing as the main source of income, the nets, pots and floats on the pier in the foreground show fishing is still very much alive.
