The Mosque Interior at Night - a photo on Flickriver

            The spectacular Nizamiya Turkish Mosque in Midrand, in northern Greater Greater Johannesburg, Gauteng, has a magnificent interior consistent with the overall Ottoman character of the architecture. Its magnificence is takes on an intriguingly different character at night under artificial light than it does by day. Here is a wide angle view at night. I have some exquisite shots of it in the afternoon light as the  beautiful western sunlight casts long shadows across the floor.. The Mosque is a wonderful, warm, friendly and welcoming space. The architecture is a modernized version of traditional Turkish 11th Century design. Built recently in 2012, it is part of a vast, relaxed and tolerant, Islamic complex that includes a Bazaar and community oriented health clinic. It is the largest mosque in the southern hemisphere and can hold 6000 worshipers. A 'must see' place for visitors to Johannesburg and Gauteng. I'd like to thank the Imam for his generosity and indulgence and the Joburg Photowalkers for arranging the opportunity.
