Lake Tahoe Winter Day - a photo on Flickriver

             You might think that there is low-lying fog on Lake Tahoe, but this is smoke from a controlled burn on the West Shore.  Since the Angora Fire burned 3,100 acres (12.5 km²), destroyed 242 residences and 67 commercial structures, and damaged 35 other homes, near Fallen Leaf Lake and Echo Lake, the Forest Service has been actively managing controlled burns to limit the destructive power of wildfires in the Lake Tahoe Basin.  January is a good time with snow on the ground and no wind.
