Stourpaine & Durweston Halt - a photo on Flickriver

            Stourpaine & Durweston Halt looking north towards Shillingstone. It was one of several halts opened on the Somerset & Dorset to try and attract passengers in the light of competition from the motor omnibus. It opened on 9th July 1928 and, as can be seen, had a platform (120ft) and shelter which was made-up of concrete sections including the nameboard, at the SR's concrete works at Exmouth Junction. It had short life closing, along with several other halts on the S&D, on 17th September 1956.
Until December 1951, about a half-mile north of the halt there was a crossing loop controlled from a signal box, which broke the section between Shillingstone and Blandford Forum.
