KCS Final Day Scenes, pt. 4 - a photo on Flickriver

            I didn't meet the KCS until I moved to Kansas after college, but I soon became acquainted with it, and it became one of my frequent photo targets when heading to Kansas City. With all of the time spent along it over the years, I only felt it necessary that I spend a few hours up there tonight, on its last evening as an independent entity.

In the foreground is the KCS 4100 north, the last pure KCS road freight that I'd ever shoot. This is the M261, a manifest from Shreveport to Kansas City. In the background is one of the ubiquitous yard jobs led by one of their beautiful Belle-painted SW1500’s, the 4349. I’m guessing that those will be replaced in the near future, as the KCS was absolutely an outlier in their use of end-cab switchers.
