Major Ray Mallock, began motor racing as a hobby, before developing the family business, designing, developing and manufacturing the long line of club racing cars. The name derived from Mallocks business slogan - U2 (you to) can go motor racing. He was in his teens when when he produced his first U2. The second car was constructed around bed irons, that had cost just 2.5 pence and was powered by a 350cc Triumph Twin Motor Cycle engine

With the advent of the 750 Motor Clubs 1172cc Formula in 1953, Mallock was a regular entry. By 1958 he had built the first of the long running U2 series based on a lightweight space frame chassis.in which he won the Ford Championship of Ireland. In 1959 a Formula Junior version appeared along with a replica for John Harewood, and customers were quoted £ 48.50 for a bare chassis or £ 754 fully built. New versions appeared regularly and by 1980 Mallock had progressed to manufacturing the U2 Mk.24
