Cruising Along the Kennedy Expressway

            Within a few weeks this scene of a UP freight train pacing traffic on the Kennedy Expressway will be history. In tow is an empty boxcar from the Chicago Tribune Freedom Center printing press. Blommer Chocolate's downtown Chicago plant and the Chicago Tribune Freedom Center printing press are both closing. 

Print production of the Chicago Tribune and other newspapers will move to the Daily Herald printing press in Schaumburg serviced by CPKC which Tribune parent Alden acquired. 

The train shown here is headed next to Alpha Baking's plant in Chicago's Hermosa neighborhood where it will swap out covered hoppers. The waycar (caboose) will be use for the two mile shove down the remnant of the Cragin Line off the Harvard Subdivision.
