The art of catching the eye! : advert issued by Odhams Press Ltd., London : in Advertising Display magazine, 1928 : artwork by EF [Eric Fraser]

            An advert regarding the design and layout of advertisements issued by Odhams Press of London and appearing in a magazine that they themselves published at the time - Advertising Display. Odhams were a long established printers and publishers, mostly of magazines and papers, but who offered a wide range of services to external clients. Based in Covent Garden their works are now the site of the aptly named housing scheme that replaced the buildings opposite Covent Garden tube station.

Amongst the fancy and contemporary typefaces and lettering the main focus of the advert is the behatted gent catching the eye. Signed "EF" this is, I am sure, Eric Fraser who went on to become a well known artist and illustrator, creator of Mr Therm for the gas industry. By 1928 he was established as a freelance artist and illustrator as well as beginning his teaching career.
