Southwark Past & Present - official guide (7th edition) : published by E J Burrow for the Metropolitan Borough of Southwark : c.1957 : street plan of Southwark

            Like most UK local authorities in the 20th century the London Metropolitan Borough of Southwark was no exception when it came to issuing 'Official Guides" or handbooks. Like many others these were produced on behalf of the Council by Cheltenham based publishers E J Burrow. Southwark's various pre- and post-war editions included a detailed history of the area written by Charles White and the post-war versions include the story of the Borough's numerous losses due to aerial bombardment.

This street plan or map shows the older and smaller Metropolitan Borough that became the core of the larger, new London Borough of Southwark in 1965.
