Shopping in London : booklet issued by The British Travel & Holidays Association : 1952

            A fine little booklet, describing in great detail London's 'great' shops and department stores, and issued in 1952 by the British Travel & Holidays Association. This organisation, formed in 1950,  was the successor to the Travel Association formed in 1929 and the predecessor to the British Tourism Authority of 1969. The Association, a Government backed body and that represented a wide range of organisations and institutions concerned with all aspects of travel and holidays, issued many items of publciity and marketing with the aim of promoting holidays in Britain. This booklet was squarely aimed at the North American market and this copy  was handed out at 'Cruises from Florida, Inc." of St. Petersburg, Florida, USA. 

A correction slip to the text mentions the discontinuation of the "Utility Scheme" that was formally abolished in 1952 having first been introduced in 1941 and known for the "CC41" branding. The cover and illustrations are rather fun but sadly uncredited; one illustration has the initials "E.P.M.". The scene of a busy London street, most likely Oxford Street, is seen over a balcony of colourful pelargoniums.
