H V Burlingham Ltd., Blackpool, Lancashire, UK - advert, 1935

            What a fine 1935 advert for the Blackpool based coachbuilder H V Buringham. Formed in 1928/30 Burlingham gained a reputation for quality and although they produced for many operators they were often most associated with local operators Blackpool Corporation and Ribble Motor Services (down the road in Preston) for whom they constructed some very stylish and contemporary designs. The "Sun-Saloons" were 'de-luxe' and fitted to 'streamlined road liners' - it is all marvellously 1930s and at a time when motor coaches and their design were really coming into their own.

Burlingham became part of Duple Coachworks, of Hendon, North London, in 1960 and in time the Blackpool factory became the main site for the merged company. As can be seen they were proud of Blackpool and the town's famous Tower is included in their 'logo', usually this was in the form of a varnish transfer inside the vehicle. The business closed in 1989. This advert shows a Buckinghamshire registered Leyland - BEH 951 - (by the looks of it) and I wonder if the advert copy is missing a word after "fastidious" as it sort of ends ....
