Austin is here to make a good job of it! - advert, 1950

            Talk about post-war optimism! A very grand double spread advert for Austin Motors, the Birmingham based vehicle manufacturer and using the ad strapline " - you can depend on it!". Austin, founded in 1905 by Herbert Austin, are possibly best recalled for cars but they also produced commercial vehicles usually at the lighter payload end of the spectrum, and here is one of the larger models (a 4K I think?) about to crush a trench full of workmen. The vignettes show the more commonly seen Austin vans, based on the A40 model. These include the A40 "Countryman", an almost American inspired 'brake'.  In 1952 Austin's effectively merged with rivals Morris to create the British Motor Corporation group.
