            The clock is ticking down to Friday 29th March when 6K27 will make its final run from Carlisle to Crewe along with corresponding northbound 6C18, both are casualties of spending cuts forced on Network Rail from this year. With Network Rail's budget slashed in real terms for the new CP7 infrastructure maintenance contract starting on 1st April 2024 it will leave just 6K05/6C02 as the sole trunk service between Carlisle and Crewe. K05/C02 have always been seen as serving Carlisle LDC while K27/C18 operates more as a feeder connecting in and out of 6S50/6M51 Carlisle to Millerhill catering for all Scottish infrastructure traffic. The current thinking is there will be enough capacity for everything on the remaining train pair, only time will tell.
That wouldn't be the case on this date as 68 034 stands with 6K05 12.29 to Basford Hall Yard at maximum length with a train of Falcon wagons while alongside with an equally long train 66 142 stands with 6K27 14.50 to Basford Hall Yard. For company they have yard pilot engine 0T00 66 092 on the right and 66 759 stabled in the background in the up recess sidings.
