The first flying lessons - a photo on Flickriver

            White storks (Ciconia ciconia) have the first flying lessons. 
Storks, identified with the Alsace region of France for centuries, have built almost 25 nests in the small town of Munster. They have occupied many roofs, giving the town a quite unique landmark. Most towns in Alsace have storks. Towns build frames to hold stork nests on tops of churches and other tall buildings, in hope that storks will nest there.
It is located in a valley of the Vosges mountains about 15 km west of Colmar.
Munster is also famous for its cheese (the Munster cheese). In the nearby village of Gunsbach, Albert Schweitzer grew up in the late 19th century, when the region was known as Elsaß-Lothringen (Alsace-Lorraine) and was part of the German Empire. 

The White Stork is a large wading bird in the stork family Ciconiidae, breeding in the warmer parts of Europe (north to Estonia), northwest Africa, and southwest Asia (east to southern Kazakhstan). It is a strong migrant, wintering mainly in tropical Africa, down to the south of South Africa, and also in the Indian subcontinent.
It is a huge bird, 100-125 cm (40-50 in.) tall, with a 155-200 cm (61-79 in) wingspan and a weight of 2.3-4.5 kg (5-10 lbs). It is completely white except for the black wing flight feathers, and its red bill and legs, which are black on juveniles.
