            Butterfly, caterpillar, Pupa - chrysalis - the life cycle of a butterfly. Here we see up close the chrysalises with Pipevine Swallowtail butterflies maturing inside the hard shells. Captures these images of the Pupae since they looked a bit like faces in a horror movie. Just a stage. Soon a beautiful butterfly will emerge. These light green chrysalises are the start of the pupa process. The darker the pupae the closer to the butterfly emerging. As with a lot of my butterfly photos, this image was captured at the Conservatory of Flowers in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park.
