Subaru Impreza WRX (Gen 2) 2001

            Subaru launched the second generation Impreza range in 2000.

This second generation model was evolved from a substantially revised version of the first generation platform.

This model was immediately noted for its controversial styling of the front facial, with large inclined circular headlamp units, earning it the nickname "Bug Eye". The Impreza received two facelifts through this product cycle, the first in 2002, by designer Peter Stevens of Prodrive, which chiefly addressed the headlamp shape, and the second, by Greek designer Andreas Zapatinas, which was more comprehensive in creating a new Subaru corporate face for the brand.

The WRX model (shown) was launched in December 2000, shortly after the introduction of the mainstream Impreza. The base WRX deployed a 2.0L 4-cylinder, turbocharged boxer engine producing 184 kW (JDM market), 160 kW (Australia, Europe), and 169 kW (in North America). Power ratings are affected by fuel quality and emissions standards.

The higher performance WRX STi version produced between 195 kW - 206 kW (265 PS - 280 PS) and 343 Nm - 373 Nm (253 lb.ft - 275 lb.ft) depending on market sold.

Whereas the first generation model was sold in sedan, coupe and wagon versions, the second generation was not sold with a 2-door body style.

Being October, which had always been the LUGNuts anniversary month, this Subrau WRX Gen2 has been built to the 35th challenge theme 'Big in Japan'.
