Mr and Mrs Wingman. Happy Wing Wednesday

            You're not supposed to have favourite kids right! But ever since we have been providing feed for our visiting Galahs, we have always had a few favourites. Amongst the standouts who have been coming to us for several years are Mr and Mrs Wingman, normally we just call them Wingman and Mrs W. You can see the origin of his name as he has a bad right wing but other than reducing his ability to lift in a short space, he seems to get about ok most of the time. It does bother him though as the angle that it hangs and juts out gets in the way a bit and he often has to turn around when eating to reposition it away from their special dish which is always kept back until they arrive. We now recognise their voices and they will call us if they come alone and we don't notice as they did this morning. 

They both eat fast and love sunflower seeds (don't they all!), although they get a broad range of others as well. They tend to come later in the morning and afternoon, it's easier for them to come alone and eat unmolested by other hungry mouths. If they arrive when other Galahs are here, it's pandemonium while we put their plate out and then Wingman in particular defends his food vigorously, no-one else gets in to their seeds if he can help it! Quite a bit of nipping goes on. 

While his name is not really cute, it also has part genesis in a nick name I was called many years ago when we skated but I won't tell you what that was. They are beautiful parents, and in fact out of all the birds that visit, they are the only clear couple we have identified. They had young last year and well, with spring a few months still away may well be getting ready for another brood. Galahs mate for life.
