Abandonment

The other day I posted a shot of a ground frame (old mower to some!) with its levers used to control signals in the railway yard at Coonabarabran in New South Wales. Turning a little to the right from that shot, we see, or try to anyway what's left of the now abandoned railway yard, tracks hidden by grass or pulled up. It appears the railways of NSW weren't in a hurry to sell off the rest for scrap and I imagine it will all just sit here until it rusts away or falls down!

Many country branch lines have closed, a world wide phenomenon and even in grain country they have been impacted by rationalisation of loading facilities.

The old railway platform is just beyond the shed on the left and even the station name board is still there minus a couple of letters.

There is little so desolate than closed and abandoned railway stations.
