Morning Watchman

            It's a famous overlook for a reason. The Watchman and the Virgin River about 45 minutes after sunrise.

I feel a certain amount of unwarranted jealousy about Zion, my favorite Utah national park (and one of my favorite parks anywhere). It was one of the first national parks I remember visiting as a kid. My first visit was in a car--the mandatory summer buses in Zion Canyon were still some years away. My grandmother worked in the Zion Lodge as a teenager (back in the 1930s!) and my family has close ties to the area. It's certainly never been an unknown place in my lifetime, but it's popularity has grown so much that when I see other people posting pictures of it, I always feel a little jealous twinge: "that's MY park!" ;)

But of course it's a special place for lots of people. And for good reason!
