            Parasola plicatilis is a delicate, thin-stemmed relative of the ink caps in the family Psathyrellaceae. It usually appears singly or in small groups on humus-rich soils, lawns, and gardens, often after rainfall. Its characteristic feature is the radially pleated, paper-thin cap, which is gray-brown when young and becomes paler as it expands. The gills are initially pale, later turning dark brown to black. This fungus is a saprobiont, decomposing dead plant material, and produces very short-lived fruiting bodies that often collapse within a single day.
