When East African Airways folded its wings in early 1977, Kenya was quick in establishing a successor, Kenya Airways. The intitial fleet consisted of a number of former EAA DC-9s and wet-leased Boeing 707s, that were later replaced by owned 707s, as well as this Boeing 720B.

Registered as 5Y-BBX, it was acquired from Western Air Lines in 1978, and was seen upon one of its infrequent visits to Zürich, completing its landing roll on runway 16. 5Y-BBX remained in Kenya Airways service until 1989, when it was withdrawn from use at Nairobi and broken-up there during the summer of 1992.
