Dunster Castle, situated on a wooded hill above the village of Dunster, has been a fortified site since the Norman period. While retaining medieval elements, its current form reflects substantial 19th-century remodelling during its time as the main residence of the Luttrell family, who lived there for over six centuries. The estate features terraced gardens with Mediterranean and subtropical planting, riverside woodland, and a historic working watermill, with views across the Bristol Channel.

Marshall’s Bridge is a late 20th-century metal footbridge in Dunster Castle Gardens, named after National Trust Gardens Advisor Jim Marshall. It leads into Marshall’s Garden, created by Head Gardener Mike Marshall. This tranquil area combines modern design with horticultural interest. The River Avill flows beneath, travelling 16 kilometres from Dunkery Hill to the Bristol Channel via the castle grounds.
