Iceland: Unmatched Beauty by Makayla Kocher

            This is a photograph I took on August 6th, during my research stay in Iceland. This is one of my favorite photographs taken during my time in Iceland for two reasons. First, this photograph represents the glorious and often unbelievable beauty that the Icelandic landscape has to offer. It also represents the dramatic shifts in Icelandic weather. This day began as a cold, rainy, and utterly foggy day. As I was traveling the countryside, the rain suddenly stopped, the clouds clearing and the sun shining through. I recall suddenly seeing this waterfall in the distance and had to stop. In the moment, I snapped a few pictures, spent some time gazing at the waterfall (which seemed as is in the picture, unreal) and then hopped back in the car. Reviewing my pictures from the days adventures I found these photos and once again felt captivated by the natural beauty of Iceland. Secondly, this photo represents my newfound hobby of photography. Every time I look at this picture, I feel inspired to keep pursuing my passion for capturing the world people, culture, nature in photographs. This experience has opened my eyes to the power of a picture and the ability of the natural world to continually surprise us by offering a glimpse into unmatched beauty.
