Polish space programme - a photo on Flickriver

            T448p-145 of JSW Logistics finishes dumping gangue from a couple of wagons referred to locally as "radwany" (weird, because I always used the name "dumpcary"). The locomotive was repainted in JSW's paint scheme recently after undergoing a massive repair, which lasted until December 2023. I wasn't very happy about seeing it, because I'd rather been hoping for a TEM2, but this will also do.

The very moon-like surroundings of the mining waste dumpsites around the region of Silesia are something which attracts a lot of railway photographers to take some pictures in the area. I also had to jump on the bandwagon and see all this for myself.

And so, here we are. In the snow-covered devastated landscape of KWK Knurów's mining waste dumping site. More precisely near the old railway track of the 'sand railway' network, which used to cut through this heap of rock a mere 10 years ago, before being covered with more and more gangue. The old railway line would be going just on the right side of the shot and connected a couple of locations, but mainly the coal mine 'Budryk' in Ornontowice and the mine 'Dębieńsko' in Czerwionka with the spoil tip, which we are located on.

If the data from the Polish government's Geoportal service is  to be believed, the mountain behind the train has a top elevation of around 280m above sea level, which represents a relative height difference of 40 meters (around the height of a 13 floor building!) between the photographer and its tip.
